Trong tiếng việt “ despite” có nghĩa là: Mặc dù
“Despite” trong tiếng Anh được định nghĩa là: without taking any notice of or being influenced by; not prevented by.
Được hiểu là: Mà không bị ảnh hưởng hoặc ngăn cản bởi.
“Despite” là giới từ thể hiện sự tương phản giữa hai vế mệnh đề.
DESPITE được dùng với vai trò như một giới từ, đứng trước danh từ, cụm danh từ, danh động từ, hoặc V-ing.
Ví dụ :
- Trains are still running, despite the snow.
- Xe lửa vẫn chạy, bất chấp tuyết.
- The rock festival passed off successfully, despite the fears of local residents.

CẤU TRÚC DESPITE
Cấu trúc despite có thể đứng trước mệnh đề thứ nhất hoặc nằm giữa hai mệnh đề đấy nhé!
Cấu trúc despite được sử dụng như một giới từ đứng trước danh từ, các cụm danh từ, danh động từ và động từ thêm “ing” (V-ing).
Khi cấu trúc Despite đứng ở đầu câu thì phải kết thúc mệnh đề bằng một dấu phẩy (,).
